Description
Independence Nontraditional School serves over 1,000 students in grades K–12 as an integral part of Prince William County Public Schools, the second largest school division in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Their vision—developing integrity, intellect, and ingenuity in all students—emphasizes the development and wellness of the whole student. Breaking barriers to equity is their mission; therefore, breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided to all students free of charge, technology is 1:1 both on and off campus for students and staff, and student schedules are individually created based on access, accommodations, interests, and the needs of each student. The virtual tour will explore reimagining places and spaces to address the cultural, social-emotional, intellectual, and technological needs of students and staff. Sensory rooms, flexible spaces, and state-of-the-art technology are purposefully used to promote equitable access and accommodations for all stakeholders. Creating spaces with outcomes in mind will be leveraged to include planning and processes to bring them to fruition. Forecasting needs and transferability will round out the virtual experience.
